Mental Health Awareness Workshop - 27 March 2015

ASAPI and Arcadia University Dublin are pleased to invite ASAPI members and other study abroad professionals in Ireland to a Student Mental Health Awareness Workshop.WHEN: 27 March 2015, 1 to 5 pm (optional drinks reception to follow)

WHERE: Arcadia University Dublin, 1-4 The Courtyard, 20 Fishamble Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 8

WORKSHOP DETAILS: The workshop will allow members of the study abroad community to discuss a range mental health topics as they relate to study abroad students in Ireland - including, but not limited to:

  • common mental health concerns for young adults

  • identifying problems

  • ethical and legal considerations

  • stakeholder involvement - respecting confidentiality

  • crisis intervention for individuals and groups

  • supporting staff

  • best practice

  • resources

  • cross-cultural definitions of mental health

This half-day workshop will take the format of presentation and discussion of case studies, as well as open discussion of related topics.

COST: The workshop is free.

REGISTRATION: Is limited to 15 participants on a first come first served basis. To register, please email info (at) asapireland.org with the subject line "Conference Registration" with the name, organization, phone, and email of each attendee. Availability will be confirmed on 2 March 2015.

CALL FOR CASE STUDIES:  Each case study session will last 1 hour and 15 minutes, comprising a 5-10 minute presentation of the facts and issues of the case followed by group discussion and a final summary (to be lead by the presenter) of best practice and recommendations for further development/action by the community.

If you would like to present a case study, please submit a one page proposal outlining the scenario to be discussed (if based on a real case, please ensure that all identifying information is removed or modified), the concerns and issues raised by the case, and expected learning outcomes for participants. Case study selection will be on the basis of shared concern amongst the community, particular concerns for the study abroad community, and opportunities to develop knowledge and resources.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Proposals should be emailed to info (at) asapireland.orgwith the subject line “Case Study" by 27 February 2015. The committee will review and select the case studies by 6 March 2015.
