ARCADIA- Student Community and Engagement Officer

The Arcadia Student Community and Engagement Officer’s primary role is student-facing and developmental; supporting Arcadia students studying on Irish university campuses with a focus on the Irish living experience. The candidate will help students get settled into their new Irish accommodation as well as helping to build community. They will help support the cultural engaging activities alongside a number of Dublin and centre-oriented administrative responsibilities.

With the support of other Dublin staff, this role will also be responsible for carrying the after-hours phone on a rota basis. Full training is given and this is generally used to respond to lower level emergencies and forwarding serious emergencies to senior staff.

This position is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will work 4 days per week. This role also involves occasional evening and weekend work with domestic travel. For travel, the use of a car is not required as public transport (including costs) will be arranged by Arcadia University.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The position requires a graduate with:

1) A third level degree

2) High level of flexibility and willingness to work outside of regular office hours;

3) Knowledge of Irish higher education;

4) Student-facing experience with local and international students in Ireland;

5) Knowledge of Ireland and its regional places of interest;

6) 2-3 years experience with office administration;

7) Basic bookkeeping skills and/or a willingness to learn through informal coursework in the first 3 months (approximately 20 hours of training)

8) IT skills including MS Office;

9) Familiarity with/active use of social media platforms

10) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including group leadership;

11) Excellent organisation and time management skills;

12) Permission to work in the Republic of Ireland;

Desirable additional factors include:

1) Some international experience

2) Experience in leading outdoor activities

3) Salesforce CRM experience

DIMENSION

This position will work an average of 30 hours per week (over 4 days). The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Dublin and US based College of Global Studies staff. It is expected that the successful applicant will develop their independence in the role over time, so that they are able to work with minimal supervision following completion of a 6 month probationary period. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the potential for such development.

Salary: 27.500 - 30.000 euro commensurate with experience

Hours: This position will require flexibility and the ability to commit to core scheduled student events which often fall outside the typical work week.

JOB DUTIES:

All of the components of this role are in collaboration with the other team members of Arcadia in Dublin. Some tasks will require more direct supervision and some may be more independent.

Student Housing Support

1) Work to ensure that student housing forms are reviewed and where possible, student’s physical and/or additional needs are taken into account for room allocating (this is with the support of the Assistant Director)

2) Where necessary- restock bedding/ kitchen supplies before students move into accommodation

3) Assist with student accommodation move in - helping students settle into their new Irish housing and local community

4) Help support student accommodations challenges as they arise (roommate issues for example)

5) Follow up on housing maintenance requests (most of these are managed by external accommodation providers but some level of follow up may be required from time to time)

Arcadia Student Community Building and Support

1) Build a culture of respect, empathy and inclusion by being an excellent role model while addressing student issues proactively

2) Develop a trusting relationship with students, ensuring student welfare is maintained at all times

3) Support Dublin student orientations (airport meeting, presentations to promote engagement and community building)

4) Support the planning of student “engage with the culture” activities (excursions, center and other student events)

5) Attend and participate in student events

6) Travel to outside Dublin locations (Galway, Cork, Limerick, Belfast, Clare, Maynooth) on occasion to meet students

7) Provide advice and resources to students with regard to health and safety, community engagement and other opportunities to integrate into Irish University life and culture

8) Actively engaging with the Arcadia community of students in Ireland through social media and other communication platforms

Student Support

1) Handle the 24/7 emergency phone support service with other Arcadia Dublin staff (on a rotating basis)

2) Help manage student accommodations challenges as they arise

3) Keep students informed of important updates regarding their housing or community

4) Support students through times of adjustment, emergencies and crisis by guiding them to appropriate resources

5) Communicate issues of concern or incident to appropriate staff members for case resolution

Bookkeeping and General Administration

1) To coordinate general office administration, including vendor relationship managements and general Center maintenance, petty cash, credit cards, filing, and office supplies

2) To administer student loans following Arcadia University procedures

3) To review bills and send for approval and payment

Additional tasks may be assigned from time to time
